The Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra is based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and is made up of many of the area's best jazz musicians. The group plays popular, familiar, obscure, sentimental, and exciting big band jazz tunes that are sure to appeal to all.
WCJO was founded by current members Eddie Severn and William Ciabattari. Both are music professors, and both have an extensive background in music performance of various genres. Having established themselves in the Central Pennsylvania arts and education scene, they were easily able to identify fellow musicians, teachers and performers to support the concept of the Jazz Orchestra. Working with the talent of friends Bobby Leidhecker, Tim Breon, Dick Adams and Dale Orris (to name just a few) and with the generous support of a local donor, the Jazz Orchestra was able to give its first performance in 2011. The vision of the group is to give great musicians an opportunity to play jazz standards, contemporary music and big band classics to enthusiastic audiences—and to nurture an appreciation of jazz music in the next generation of musicians and audiences.
